ve Sinem 1
ve Sinem (and Sinem), is a comic series centered a character named Sinem who believes she is not only the protagonist of her own life but also of her entire social circle, and who only associates herself with what she deems as high-class. Over time, Sinem embodied a social stereotype with familiar personality traits and predictable tastes, receiving recognition from readers in this aspect from the day it began to be published in 2011.
In the stories that comprise the first book, we get to know Sinem and those close to her: her boyfriend Alper (a.k.a. “Kral / The King” by himself), who is dedicated to bodybuilding; her mimicry-prone friend Kübra; her sister Ebru, who exhibits a romantic and sensitive nature opposite to Sinem’s; her brother-in-law Engin, who obsessively objectifies Sinem as a sexual object; Engin’s parasitic brother Utku, who always dreams big but achieves nothing, and many more…
The idea of creating a series centered around a young girl who experiences her emotions as grand dramas and often achieves what she wants by through toxic behaviors, began with the intention of establishing a self centered egocentric real life anti-hero. The stories in the first book of “ve Sinem” are drawn between 2011 and 2012, feature different faces of Istanbul and the tales of characters who find themselves in tragicomic situations. In an environment where many characters strive to present themselves as more qualified and superior than they truly are, Sinem successfully secures the leading role with her unwavering self-confidence…
“ve Sinem 1” is awarded the “Best National Comic Book” prize, as part of the Aydın Doğan Foundation International Cartoon Competition event.
